Sonmi-451:“My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean. Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”
“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.”
Meronym: Somethin’ preyin’ on you, Zachry?
Zachry: You really ain’t feary about meetin’ Old Georgie on the summit?
Meronym: I’m more scaresome ‘bout the weather than any Devil.
Zachry: You cogg he’s real? Who tripped the Fall, if not Old Georgie?
[Zachry just looks at her]
Meronym: The Old Uns.
Zachry: That’s just a rope o’smoke. Old Uns got the Smart. They mastered sick and seeds, they make miracles and fly across the sky.
Meronym: True. All true. But they got somethin’ else. A hunger in their hearts, a hunger that’s stronger than all their Smart.
Zachry: Hunger? For what?
Meronym: A hunger for more.
If you are one of those who saw the film Life of Pi and did not get it …. well … I do not recommend you see Cloud Atlas.
The far less you’ll understand. You’ll probably find yourself wondering how Tom Hanks and Halle Berry walk through time in various characters, and at the same time what is the meaning of a ship carrying slaves in 1849 and a few revolutionaries in Seoul in year 2144.
I am not an expert in cinematography, but I love art, and I can tell that Cloud Atlas is a piece of art.
The script is a gem, complex, challenging, full of unexpected twists and memorable lines.
The photography in the film plays an important role as well as the soundtrack, which is beautiful.
No doubt that special effects, breathtaking scenery and a group of excellent actors make this movie something special.
But what really leaves you satisfied at the end of the movie, is the message.
Everything is connected.
We are all connected.
Humanity, time, history, we are all bound to end in a magnificent musical work, which in each movement and melody, brings to the soul that rare feeling of endless wonder ….
We all want a better world.
But that better world begins and ends with ourselves, here and now.
Is that hunger to know more, to become better human beings, and be amazed at the creation and the universe around us ….
That is the true-true.
